It's summertime and the residents of a coastal town prepare for the 4^th of July celebration. Everyone plays a role, from washing rags to hanging flags. There is a traditional picnic and fireworks, all read in a simple rhythmic pattern. A diverse town comes together to celebrate America's Birthday. Literature Activities

1. All of the traditional 4^th of July activities can be seen in this book. Kids love to be able to relate to these great summertime events, picnics, fishing, running through sprinklers, parades, etc. It is also fun to talk about your own summertime traditions. Try putting it into a rhyme. " We go to the lake, for our summer break....:

2. Fourth of July food is always a fun activity to include the kids in. The American Flag cake, (seen on the picnic table) is a great activity for the kids. After baking and frosting a rectangular sheet cake, use blueberries to make the stars and strawberries or raspberries to make the stripes.

3. If there is not a local 4^th of July Parade, make your own, wherever you are!
